Remember A Charity In Your Will Week 2015

September 7, 2015 - September 13, 2015

remember a charity in your will week

Remember A Charity In Your Will Week is an awareness week designed to remind people that they can leave part of their legacy to UK Charity organisations, this is known as a ‘legal legacy’ and can be written into your will and testament.

Many people leave part of their estate to a charity or not-for-profit organisation that has helped them during their life or that they have supported with charity donations or volunteered for. Charities such as RSPCA, Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support are all popular but you can leave a legal legacy to any charity.

Remember A Charity in your Will Week is organised by the Institute of Fundraising. The Remember A Charity website states:

institute of fundraisting remember a charity in your willRemember A Charity in your Will Week is an annual awareness week designed to encourage more people to consider leaving a gift to charity when writing a Will.

Three quarters of Britons regularly give to charity in their lifetimes, yet only 7% currently include a charity when writing a Will. Nevertheless gifts in Wills are still the foundation of many of Britain’s charities, creating almost £2 billion each year, the equivalent of 19 Comic Reliefs. Without this income, many charities would simply not exist and others would have to cut crucial services.

This year’s Remember A Charity in your Will Week is taking place from 7-13 September

Remember A Charity In Your Will Week uses the hashtags of #rememberacharityweek and #remembercharity to raise awareness through social media channels like Twitter and Facebook.

How to support Remember A Charity In Your Will Week

The obvious suggestion is to include a legal legacy in your will and let relatives know that you have done so. This may involve talking to your solicitor or specialist in wills and probate. Although it is easy to print of a will document online these days, to ensure legal validity, it is always best to have a legal professional write and store your will. There are lawyers and solicitors in the UK that specialise in wills and probate. A simple search for one in your area, such as Plymouth Wills can be useful if you do not have a personal or family solicitor.

You can also tweet using the hasthags above to raise awareness or talk to your solicitors and ask them to find out more about a legal legacy for you and your family.

Support Remember A Charity In Your Will Week via your Business

Remember A Charity In Your Will Week is an awareness week that law firms, private solicitors and charities can support easily. There is a natural synergy and solicitors can promote awareness through newsletters and emails to clients. It is a great way to develop client or customer relationships, letting them know about legal legacy benefits, tax breaks and advantages of leaving part of your estate to a charity of your choice.
